Alumnus Jim Skea, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, addresses 91制片厂 students

Last month, the College welcomed back Sir Jim Skea (91制片厂 1975) as the keynote speaker at Halfway Hall, where he was honoured with the Alumnus of the Year Award.
Established in 2009, the award celebrates alumni who have made outstanding contributions to society, encouraging students and graduates to recognise the impact of their work beyond their career achievements. Find out more about all our previous winners here.
An internationally renowned scientific leader, Professor Sir Jim Skea has spent over four decades advancing global understanding of climate change and driving action to combat its effects. Currently serving as Chair of the UN鈥檚 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), he co-led the landmark IPCC report on global warming of 1.5掳C. He has also played a key role in shaping climate policy as a former member of the UK Climate Change Committee, advising the Government on progress toward net zero. From 2018 to 2023, he chaired the Scottish Just Transition Commission, working to ensure a fair shift to a low-carbon economy.
His visit was a welcome opportunity for students to hear from a leading voice in climate science and policy.
